Champion collects the trash on Tuesday and Friday. Recycling is collected only on Friday. Place trash outside no earlier than 6 pm the night before trash pickup, and no later than 6 am the day of. Remove bins by the next morning. Cans and bins must be stored in backyards or garages at all other times.
Trash and recyclables will be collected on all holidays except Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and New Year's Day. When a designated pickup day falls on one of these holidays, uncollected trash or recyclables will be removed on the next regularly scheduled pickup day.
Trash should be tied in plastic bags or enclosed in standard trash cans. Trash bags or containers may not exceed 50 pounds per bag or container. Place yard debris in plastic bags like normal trash. Branches must be cut and tied into bundles that are no more than two feet in diameter and no more than four feet in length, with limbs no larger than six inches in diameter. Excessive trash, such as more than five bundles of brush per home, will not be picked up.
There are two Christmas tree pickups each January. Watch for an email each December with the schedule. See the recycling guide below for what can and cannot be recycled. Champion has a great junk pick-up service for a fee. Visit their site on the Useful Contacts page for more information.
SNOW REMOVAL
MHHA uses Blue Sky for plowing, sanding, and salting. They generally plow upon the accumulation of 2 or more inches of snow, and salts and sands as necessary. Shoveling of walkways and steps is a homeowner's responsibility; please be sure to clear those areas of snow and ice as soon as the weather allows. The shoveling of fire hydrants, mailboxes, and community sidewalks is greatly appreciated.
When a storm of more than 6 inches is forecast, garage use is encouraged to open spots for pushed snow. The crew does their best to allow vehicle access, but patience is required. Cars will need to be shoveled out.
Do not use salt or de-icing products containing calcium chloride, as these products can cause damage to concrete surfaces. Shovels should have rubber edges to avoid concrete damage.
George C. Marshall Drive, Dominion Way, and Dominion Drive are state-owned roads, and the state is responsible for plowing them. (Note, that private plowing is actually prohibited.) Residents can call VDOT at 703-383-VDOT to report roads that have not been plowed. The more calls, the better.TOWING SERVICES
Al's Towing is the tow contractor for the MHHA. Residents may have cars towed from reserved spaces. Owners are responsible for notifying renters of parking rules. The management company will make arrangements to tow cars that have been left on the property in violation of parking rules. Al's is open 24x7. Call them to tow or if you have been towed at (703) 790-1156. Towed cars may be reclaimed at 8109 Ransell Road, Falls Church, VA 22042-1015.
